CrossFire is designed to be both powerful and simple to use, but can be a bit
daunting when you first open it. The best way to get up to speed quickly is
via the "Puzzle Creation Walkthrough" at

http://beekeeperlabs.com/crossfire/walkthrough.html

You can, of course, also read through the reference manual, located at.

http://beekeeperlabs.com/crossfire/docs/manual-1_3.html

You can also reach the manualby selecting the Help/View Documentation menu item
from within CrossFire itself.

INSTALLATION
============

The exact installation sequence varies by OS. We provide details for each
major OS below.

Windows:
 1) Run the supplied installer. It should be that simple.
 2) For existing users: CrossFire is now installed under "Program Files"
instead of "Program Files (x86)". However, your dictionary config will
likely still point to the "default.dict" in that directory. If you delete
the old version, you'll have to update the dictionary link.

Linux:
 1) Make sure that you are running Java 17 or later. Beekeeper Labs likes the
Zulu OpenJDK releases http://zul.com, but any distro should work.
 2) Unpack the supplied .tgz file in a location of your choosing.
 3) Run the supplied "crossfire" shell script.

Macintosh (OS X 10.7.3 & later):
 1) Download the supplied installer.
 2) Double click on the installer. You will typically want to choose the
    default options.
 3) Look for the executable app under "/Applications" and the auxiliary files
under "/Library". Brand new installations will automatically find the
library files, but anyone upgrading from version 1.2 or earlier may have
to explicitly search there for the default dictionary and sample puzzles.
